EMU is The Largest State University

Having been providing higher education since 1979, with all programs accredited by the Turkish Higher Education Council (YÖK), Eastern Mediterranean University is the oldest and largest state university in North Cyprus.

EMU has been offering quality education through 95 undergraduate and school programs and 77 postgraduate and doctoral degree programs provided by 11 faculties, 5 schools and Foreign Languages and English Preparatory School.

EMU Offers Education at International Standards

EMU is a full member of the International Association of Universities, the European University Association, Community of Mediterranean Universities and the Federation of the Universities of the Islamic World. Giving special importance to international recognition, EMU has received the accreditation of various prominent international accrediting bodies. EMU is only one of five universities in the region to have been awarded the prestigious ABET (Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology) in the field of engineering.

Similarly, EMU Architecture Faculty holds the MİAK accreditation. Business and Economics Faculty, Tourism Faculty and School of Computing and Technology have been granted the accreditation of FIBAA. Education Faculty English Language Teaching (ELT) Department was accredited by AQAS. Additionally, EMU School of Tourism and Hospitality Management gained the accreditation of TEDQUAL and the Computer Technologies and Information Systems offered by School of Computing and Technology (SCT) successfully passed ASIIN accreditation process. EMU Foreign Languages and English Preparatory School has successfully obtained EDEXCEL accreditation. Last but not least, our University’s Business and Economics Faculty is a full member of EFMD and AACSB along with only three universities in Turkey.

EMU is the only university in North Cyprus ranked by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings. Among the young universities established in the last 50 years, EMU is ranked in the 151-200 band. In the Business  & Economics Subject Rankings, EMU is in the 201-250 band which makes it the highest ranked university in this subject in the whole of Cyprus and Turkey.  In the QS World University Rankings EMU is 168th in the Eastern Europe and Central Asia region.

Various Accommodation Opportunities

Modern on-campus dormitories provide residential facilities for 7500 students. The University also rents houses/flats on behalf of students who wish to live in the city.

Student Exchange Program Opportunities

With the aim of giving the students a chance to have an educational experience in different institutions, EMU has settled numerous student exchange program collaborations with prominent institutions throughout the world. Students who choose to take part in these student exchange programs are offered the opportunity of studying in a host institution for a semester and transferring the credits gained in these institutions back to EMU. Some of the institutions Eastern Mediterranean University has settled student exchange collaborations are with Central Connecticut State University, California Long Beach State University, San Diego State University and Louisiana State University in the USA.

How to apply EMU?

Applications to our undergraduate and graduate programs at EMU can be made throughout the year, until one month prior to the beginning of each semester. Applicants are advised to make their applications by the end of December for Spring semester, and the end of August for Fall semester. Costs and Scholarships

Our tuition fees range from 4300 – 10400 $ per semester for our different undergraduate programs.

All international students at EMU receive a scholarship that covers 50 % of tuition fees (excluding the Medicine program which does not offer any scholarships and Pharmacy where 25% and 50% scholarships are offered on the basis of merit). 100% scholarships are also offered on the basis of merit to all international students who show outstanding academic achievement. EMU has 15 on-campus dormitory complexes that can accommodate over 7500 students. New students are given priority in placement. Students may also rent flats or rooms in private hostels in Famagusta. Frequent shuttle services are available between the campus and the city center.


Student Life

EMU is pleased to offer a complete educational experience on her magnificent campus, with a modern library, modern classrooms, computer laboratories with high-speed internet connection, research labs, research centers, dormitories, a student activity center, student clubs, sport complexes, cafeterias and restaurants.

EMU has an International Office which was established to help students with their educational and scholarly pursuits at EMU. This is accomplished by providing quality service, facilitating important linkages to the campus and community, offering cross-cultural educational programs, and assisting with immigration regulation compliance.
